Handbag Zipper Selection Guide

The choice of zipper differs significantly depending on the material—whether it is canvas, genuine leather, or PU leather. Selection varies according to the material’s softness, weight, and tensile strength requirements.

Cotton/Canvas/Oxford Bag

For handbags made of soft materials such as fabric, canvas, or Oxford cloth, nylon or resin zippers are recommended. They are lightweight, offer sufficient tensile strength, and are cost‑effective.

 
 
 

Leather Bag

For zippers used in genuine leather bags, the metal teeth and puller must undergo anti-acid treatment. Aluminum zippers are not recommended; brass zippers are more durable and provide smoother operation.

Main Zipper

  • Industry standard: #5(tooth width ~5mm) — best balance of smoothness and tensile strength for most handbags.
  • Oversized or heavy‑duty totes → upgrade to #8 or #10 resin/metal.
  • Leather main compartments: strongly recommend #5 or #8 brass zipper for weighty feel and longevity.

Interior Zipper

  • Standard: #3(tooth width ~3mm) — lightweight, won’t press into lining, sufficient for low cycle use.
  • For delicate silk linings, choose #3 nylon reverse coil to avoid metal teeth snagging.
  • Two precise matching methods:
    • ① Use zipper color card & provide Pantone®.
    • ② Submit an actual fabric swatch to the zipper mill; compare under standardized light.
  • Bulk orders: insist on single production batch! Different batches often show noticeable shade variation in tape or plating.
  • Light‑colored fabric bags→ dark zipper tape may bleed. Always requiretape dye‑fixing treatment(wash/rub fastness min. grade 4) to avoid staining.

Logo on puller

  • Die‑cast / stamp logo on metal pullers, or epoxy/enamel filling for color.
  • Leather bags can feature engraved pull tabs (leather or metal) to instantly elevate perceived value.
  • Minimum order quantities apply for custom molds, but the upgrade in brand perception is undeniable.
  • Popular finishes: light gold, matte nickel, gunmetal.
  • Salt spray test mandatory(min. 24h, export grade 48h+) to prevent rust during sea freight or warehouse storage.
  • Inner cavity of puller must be smooth – poor castings cause scratching sounds.
